On Tuesday night I took a seat
at a fairy garden down the street.
I wondered who made that world
for the children to believe.
I closed my eyes and grew right there
a pair of sparkling wings.
I gathered up my woodland friends
to play and laugh and sing.
My adult responsibilities —
unreturned phone calls
bills and all the worries —
they slowed into a crawl.
My laughter bubbled up
like a fizzy soda pop
I lingered even longer at
this fairy garden stop.
Life was waiting for me
to show up responsibly —
but I think there’s always time
for the playful child in me.
So linger, laugh, and let go
of the world that holds you tight —
your inner child knows quite well
what you need on a Tuesday night.
