Choosing What I See

Today I choose to love me

in all that I need to be.

Today I choose to love me

no matter what you see.

There may be insecurity —

of that I’m fairly sure —

there may be bumps and bruises

and there may be many more.

There may be grumpy people

who might need some loving too.

There may be doubts, there may be fears,

in the stress I must move through.

There may be lines to wait in

and I might be put on hold.

I might get really hot and

there’s a chance I will get cold.

There may be a person that

needs more than I have today.

There may be a tight discomfort

or I might not know what to say.

There may be a clogged up sink

or a slippery kitchen floor.

There may be tricky challenges

that I simply can’t ignore.

But I can raise my chin up high

when negativity comes my way.

I can notice all the miracles

that we lose sight of day to day.

I can notice how my heart pumps fast

when nervousness arises.

I can see how imperfections

create interesting surprises.

I can notice how my hand fits

into the warm one of my lover.

I can see that each emotion

is a message to uncover.

I can notice nature’s way

of splashing us with color.

I can see the similarities

between me and another.

I can laugh and I can cry

and neither one is queen.

I can notice all the things

that make me a human being.

Today I choose to love me

in all that I need to be.

Today I choose to love me

no matter what I see.
