I forgot how deep
my roots did go
and I got up
to walk away.
But my roots dragged
the dirt of time
and made it
hard to stray.
Deep dark soil
bodies know,
our minds
leafy branches of —
the pride, the years,
what-ifs and tears–
the decay from which
we grow.
